The way I took it is he meant Events that are more in-depth than changing drop rate variables or faction percentages.

A great weekend. Simple, a holiday or event themed weekend set around some in game delmiaa (ie, an earthquake, a GW:EN dragon waking up, whatever). Esentially, something plot driven (*gasp*). Have new sides quest, WITH event drops, WITH bonus faction for PvP areas, WITH double dye/green item/lock pick drop rate.
Essentially, stuff like Wintersday, Dragonfest, etc BUT with a little bit of everything for everybody. I'd rather see one or two more festivals like that a year, then have dozens of pitily events nobody really cares about.
And, I'm not trying to "ruin" anything. Don't troll.
Although, to be fair, it is too late now. You can't take away these stupid weekend events now, because then people would qq about it and say "OMGZ GW1 is dying" and rage like crazy. A.net wrote themselves into this trap.

Even then you are going to displease people. Some of you may not remember all the complaining about how short the original holiday celebrations were. The massive amounts of complaining that "I missed this or that". Now imagine that on all those special weekends.
The point is that by having a small event every weekend they allow more people to participate in them. It is simple numbers, if you have 4 weekends a month that is 4 times more likely a person will be able to participate than if you only had 1 special weekend a month.
That is only taking into account the people complaining because they would miss that one special event. Imagine now the people complaining that said event was too hard, too in depth, too easy, etc..
It is much easier on everyone involved to have smaller weekend events, and occasionally a large event the way it is set up now.

Yeah, if someone disagrees with you label them a troll. That is real effective. The problem with one or two festivals a year is that some people have lives. For the holidays they have to visit families, significant others, etc. You will argue that those people just don't deserve to be there if they are too busy. That is fine, and A-net has those holiday events. For those people that do have lives A-net sets up special weekends. They are not as grand as the festivals you are talking about, but they offer a much greater chance for involvement.
You idea is just plain bad. It only serves to benefit the few people that have nothing else going on in their lives and can plan their weeks around playing a game. For the rest of us, there are weekend events like the one coming up. Unlike you, I am glad that A-net thinks enough of it's players to put these events into the game.

Yes, when GW was new and many casual players were still exploring and finding things out. Games have a shelf life and after a while they become stale. The weekend events were a way to keep interest.

Then, when they started they used to occur only every once in a while. Now, by constantly having them, you get qqs (PvPers complaining about PvE weekends, PvEers complaining about PvP weekends) and you get these stupid events that aren't even really events.
|
There are always QQers no matter what the event is (looked in the mirror?) Yet again, just because it isnt an event YOU are interested in, does not mean you are the voice and thoughts of everyone - please try and remember that.

I'd rather they had a few GOOD events then medicore ones all the time.

Again, what you consider good is what another considers poor. Learn to appreciate the fact that there are differences each weekend, even if they arent ones that specifically reflect your requirements.

Yes, I am sure they wouldnt take up large chunks of development time. Maybe that would be feasable if there was a monthly fee being paid. Guess what? what happens when the special weekend falls at a time when R/L events are taking place - then you dont just miss a small event, but maybe the only one in the quarter - I am sure noone would QQ about that.

Ahh yes, a little bit of everything - just so noone has time to do all the things they want to do. Lets wait for three months and then not get to enjoy everything....
For "nobody" insert "you" - as I appreciate and like many of the weekend events, so your nobody fails right there and then and along with it the arguement.

People in glass houses??
You think the weekend events are stupid, we all see that. Then the easy thing is just dont participate. I am sure anet will see the drop in the server useage and stop the weekend events in response.

I rather have a few good events ever now and then, and some mediocre ones the rest of the time. Like how it actually works right now.

The first time they did the Double Lucky from chests weekend I went from zero to rank 2 Lucky. It was a highly useful event for me back then.
It's not that much useful now, but certainly still good for others.
And triple lockpick drops is meh, a typical player may get 1 or 2 in the whole weekend, but a hardcore farmer of mass mobs should see the difference.

*sigh* Oh, well. I'll just do what I do on the weekends.

I actually get lots of lockpicks (average 4 a day or 1 per vanquish), but all i do is vanquish anyways... However i do break them always on he first try

It's swings and roundabouts.
I'm very very happy with this event and I've been waiting for it since the last time, 2-3 months ago. I'm 650k away from maxing lucky and this couldn't have come at a better time.
The weekends giving double vanquish/LB/SS/points for fame etc are useless to me as I've already maxed them titles or have no intention to..
Swings and roundabouts.

they need a weekend where they have every event going at the same time. Dragon festival, wintersday, halloween, etc. Then your computer explodes.
